Business models became working tools
As a freelance consultant, I worked on strategy, funding, market entry and business models. I taught myself Excel and VBA to explore assumptions and make those models useful to clients. Automation followed: once a process worked, I wanted to make it easier to repeat.
Analysis in its operational setting
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership on rural and island transport brought together analytical tools, public-sector requirements and external developers. Later healthcare roles reinforced the importance of interpreting data carefully and presenting it to support decisions.
Applications and their lifecycle
Power Platform development widened the problem to development, testing, permissions, configuration and controlled deployment. Illuminate and my ALM pipeline are currently in testing.
AI and professional judgement
My current focus is how an organisation can use AI while retaining a clear basis for professional judgement. Metacog explores the relationship between model output, evidence, challenge and the person who decides to rely on the work.
The common thread is systems thinking grounded in implementation: understanding the whole process, then resolving the details that allow it to function.
